Home cinema

Memorable movie nights

From a dedicated home cinema room with individual seating, tiered viewing platforms and a popcorn machine, to a hidden screen that descends from the ceiling to transform your lounge into something more, you can create an exclusive cinema experience in the comfort of your own home, elevating movie nights into something truly memorable.

We take a bespoke approach to every home cinema room we design & install

A home cinema system allows you to fully enjoy the cinematic experience of a blockbuster movie without ever having to leave the comfort of your own home. With high-quality sound and visuals, you can watch movies and TV shows with a level of clarity and detail that you can’t even experience in your local cinema.

Your home cinema is designed around the perfect experience for you and the small group of people watching, not optimised to give a base level of performance to the 250 viewers in a commercial theatre.

In addition to the convenience of not having to travel, you are also able to pause, rewind and fast-forward your content as you please, offering a much more personalised and private viewing experience.

We specialise in designing home cinemas that not only create the ultimate movie watching experience but that look incredible too. It doesn’t have to be a large basement space - we can create the home cinema experience in any chosen room in your home.

TESTIMONIALS

Bespoke cinema & media rooms

  • SCREENS & PROJECTORS

Often when people think of projection systems, their only experience of them has been watching football matches on a badly lit system in a pub or sitting through a presentation at work. We frequently find that when our clients see the results that can be achieved with a home cinema projector and screen they are blown away and had no idea that we can achieve such crisp and bright images on such large screens. Modern 4K projectors are also much more affordable now so once you want to start looking at a screen size over 85” then you really should be considering a projector.

In a lot of applications we specify acoustically transparent projection screens where we can install speakers directly behind the screen material, so the sound comes from the exact same place as the image giving a truly immersive experience.

  • SPEAKERS

Whilst a lot of the focus is often on the picture quality and size of the screen, the sound is equally as important to properly experience the full potential of a home cinema or media room. Using multiple speakers and audio channels, properly located around the viewer, the TV or movie’s sound will come from various directions, creating an atmosphere filled with multi-dimensional layers of sound that fully envelopes the listener and creates a truly captivating and immersive experience.

With every room being different, we will carefully work out the best combination and placement of speakers to make the most of your space and budget. The end result isn’t just down to the speakers as the amplification and the audio processing can play a big role as well. We use systems that allow us to measure the finished room with carefully calibrated microphones, which adjust the signals that are sent to the speakers, to improve the localisation of sound events to give better clarity and create deeper and tighter bass.

  • BESPOKE SEATING

Bespoke or dedicated home cinema seats are a fantastic way to elevate the home cinema experience and provide an unparalleled level of comfort and style. We can source custom-made seating solutions that are specifically designed to ensure not only do they match your decor but are comfortable and practical for watching a movie. We can even go as far as to have seating covered in the materials of your choice as we have done in the past to match existing furnishings.

Whether you’re looking for seating for a single person or a whole family, we can create custom seating solutions that will provide the perfect combination of comfort and style for your home cinema experience. And it's not just about the aesthetics - having seating that properly supports your head whilst allowing you to slightly recline and bring out a foot rest can make all the difference for the perfect viewing experience.

  • MEDIA SERVERS

In addition to the usual streaming services or broadcast TV such as Sky, we can also install media servers which give you the best possible quality of content in your home cinema or media room. Streaming services are increasingly the most common way people watch movies, however, they cannot compete with the quality of traditional physical media such as a 4K Blu-ray. What does come into play though is the convenience factor and often people are happy with ‘good enough’ if the choice is between being able to sit down and choose a film from an on screen menu rather than having to go and choose a physical disk and put it into a player.

Media servers such as the Kaleidescape system solve this problem and offer the best of both worlds by allowing you to download 4K Blu-ray quality movies to the hard drive and choose which film you want to watch via their unparalleled video cover system interface.

  • ACOUSTIC TREATMENTS

To further improve the sound in a home cinema or media room we can look at using acoustic materials to optimize the audio quality experienced by the viewer. We can improve the sound by utilising sound-absorbing and sound-diffusing materials to reduce reverberation and echos. This results in an improvement in the clarity of sound.

We can use acoustic panels, bass traps and diffusers, which are strategically placed within the room to reduce reflections and create a balanced sound. Or even go as far as framing systems to create fully fabric wrapped walls which can hide all of the speakers and acoustic treatments and maximise the aesthetics of the room.

  • CINEMASCOPE & MASKING

One option, if space permits is to look at cinemascope ratio screens which are a much wider aspect ratio than the standard 16:9 widescreen we are used to at home. When you are watching live TV or streaming TV shows you will see that the picture fills the screen - but have you ever noticed when watching some movies that there are black bars at the top and bottom? This is because the film was created in wider ratio like 2.40:1 (so for every 1 unit of height there are 2.4 units of width. In widescreen for every 9 units of height there are 16 of width). It’s the reason why you might remember the curtains opening up after the trailers at the cinema to allow for the much wider screen .

We can install screens that use this wider aspect ratio and use different techniques to get rid of the black bars to truly give that cinema experience. We can use that same technique with the cinemas curtain’s by screen ‘masking’ which shrinks the width of the screen for when you are watching widescreen content.
