Wifi & data networks
Robust wired and wireless connectivity
In a modern home the IP network is the backbone of most of the systems that we install, from the standard distribution of internet over wired and WiFi connections through to sophisticated Audio and Video over IP solutions. Whatever your needs, a well designed and implemented network is an important first step.
We take a bespoke approach to every wifi & data network we design & install
For the majority of normal houses all of the Internet and networking is done from an all in one router with built-in Wi-Fi supplied by whoever is providing the Internet service. This is often fine for small houses where the signal can reach a few rooms in either direction and where any advanced features are not needed. However, when we get into high-end residential properties, we hit the obvious limitations of decreasing Wi-Fi signal strength and also slow speeds the further you are from the router.
We also need to accommodate sophisticated systems and have a wired network that can handle all the required connections. We can also design and install systems to ensure that you have the highest possible speeds everywhere. It’s essential, whether that be the convenience of Wi-Fi or the reliability and maximum bandwidth offered by physical connections.

WIFI & DATA networks
-
DEDICATED SYSTEMS
Whilst an all in one modem, router, switch and Wi-Fi box is often sufficient for standard houses, we require more from each of those individual parts so they are split out and we specify individual pieces of equipment that best meet the requirements of the project.
-
MODEMS & ROUTERS
How we are getting the Internet signal into the house will dictate what kind of modem and router we use, but we can accommodate anything from standard phone lines and direct fibre to the property, through to satellite Internet with services such as Starlink.

MESH WIFI SYSTEMS
Whilst it is possible to get boosters which pick up the Wi-Fi signal and re-broadcast it, they suffer from reducing the speed because at each point where the signal is boosted, the maximum you are ever going to get is the signal strength that went in. They can also cause communication issues between devices that are effectively on different Wi-Fi networks. Instead, we install the best wireless access points, which are all hardwired and communicate together to operate as a single system. Our most popular solution is ruckus, whereby one of the access points becomes a controller and runs software to manage all of the rest.

SEAMLESS ROAMING
Your modern smart phone is designed to try and hang onto Wi-Fi signal for as long as possible. This is fine when you have a single source for the Wi-Fi, but if you have multiple access points and boosters, it can mean that your phone is connected to a much worse signal because you've moved and the phone doesn't know there is a stronger signal nearby. The smart Wi-Fi systems that we install monitor all of the wireless devices and hand them off between access points the minute there is a stronger signal present. Your phone only ever sees one wifi network and you get uninterrupted service throughout your home even if you walk from one side to the other whilst on a video call!
-
NETWORK SWITCHES
A standard Wi-Fi router only has 4 to 6 hardwired ports on the back for the physical connection of network equipment. However, we need many more connections on a typical project. We use more commercial style network switches in multiples of 24 ports, and it is common to use three or even more of these switches.

SPEED
With new wireless standards, such as Wi-Fi6, we can get close to gigabit speeds without having to plug your device into the wall. For most of your devices, such as your smart phone, there isn't really a huge benefit to having these kind of speeds. However, being able to just use laptops on the Wi-Fi and make the most of your Internet connection without having to plug in to a hardwired connection gives you ultimate flexibility without sacrificing performance.
